Akiko Morigami is born on January 12, 1980, in Osaka, Japan. Akiko is Japanese, and plays tennis very well. In 1998, she turned professional. On August 15, 2005, Akiko reached the prime of her tennis career; a career-high singles ranking: World No. 41.
Playing High
Akiko has won 1 singles title in her tennis career and reached 1 singles final, the 2005 Cincinnati Women's Open where she lost to Patty Schnyder. In the 2006 French Open, she defeated World No.3 Nadia Petrova in the first round. This is an achievement considering that Petrova was a favorite to win the Grand Slam title. Akiko is known for her strong two-handed game.
Futhermore, Akiko won her first WTA Singles title at Tier IV Prague in 2007 defeating top-seed Marion Bartoli of France 6-1 6-3 in the final.
