Profile
Andreea's name will remain in the Olympic and Gymnastics history as "the apple of discord" after having been stripped of her gold medal in the All-around in Sydney 2000. She was found to have taken two pills for a cold, which, unknown to her, contained the banned stimulant pseudoephedrine. However, the Olympic Gold medal that Andreea won as a member of the Romanian Team and her Silver medal on Vault were left to her. Andreea's star rose at the 1999 World Championships in Tianjin, where she won the title on floor and helped the Romanian team into the victory. This was in fact her first competition as a senior. Her World medal tally grew with three Gold medals (Team, Beam and Floor) and two Bronze medals (AA and Vault) at the 2001 World Championships in Ghent.
At the 2002 Worlds Championships in Debrecen (20th to 24th of November), she announced that she will retire and the World Cup Final in Stuttgart (30th of November - 1st December), will be the last competition in her career!
