Ayumi is still on the top two women to look out for at the '99 Summer X Games. Ayumi pulled off an incredible performance at the '97 X Games. The judges felt that her run was technically perfect but that she didn't use the full width of the ramp. She took the bronze medal.
Ayumi is a junior high school student in Japan, wears a uniform to school and commutes about an hour to get to the skate park where she practices three to four hours a day after school.
She keeps a low profile at her school. Most of her friends know that she skates but very few people at her school really know how good she is, or that she is world ranked.
