Catherine Murphy set a new Welsh indoor record of 52.72s on her indoor debut at 400m in 2001and became the first woman to win both the 200m and 400m at the AAA indoor championships. In the same year she improved both the Welsh indoor records for 200m and 400m. She ran impressively at the World Indoor Championships of 2001 where she was pipped on the line to finish fourth in her semi-final in a time of 52.45s. Catherine's 2002 outdoor season has begun very well as she recently won the Australian 400m title with a time of 52.18s. She is former student of Brunel University and holds a degree in law
