Profile
Living up to a famous father's name is not always easy, but imagine the steep hill Laila Ali had to climb when she decided to literally try her hand at boxing. There is arguably no greater sports figure in the world than Muhammad Ali, and any progeny going into the same profession as his would have some big shoes to fill. Despite recognizing this intimidating fact and knowing the media would often peg her as "the Greatest's daughter," Miss Ali headed into the ring head first.
Not only has she been able to make a name for herself in the four years since her debut, she is also emerging as a full-fledged icon. Instead of hiding behind her father's shadow, Ali has simply let her work (notably a right jab and hook) speak for itself. A dynamic personality has helped her become more than just an accomplished boxer: she is revered among all as an intelligent, bold and headstrong woman.
While Laila Ali's young fans can look up to her as a role model, in a time when sport has few such models left, we men can appreciate her beauty. She is quite the looker and can allure us with her gloves on, or off.
Ali can walk the walk and talk the talk. Some mistake her for being overly confident, but if you look at the results, she simply is one who has faith in her abilities as a boxer, model or entertainer in general. This self-confidence is backed by a strong desire to succeed and a stubborn refusal to accept nothing but complete success. Certainly a perfectionist, Ali never pigeonholes herself and, with a smile and a sense of adventure, is always willing to tackle new projects and try new things in business or on a personal level.
Saying "Ali packs quite a punch" means more than what people might expect. Yes, she is the woman to beat on the female boxing circuit thanks to her footwork and power in the ring, but that is not all. She can also floor people, mostly men, with a pretty face and athletic body. Ali knows how to flaunt and market herself too, which makes her accomplishments in the ring that much more impressive. Talent-wise, she is a jack-of-all-trades, even writing Reach!, a motivating book about her childhood and road to success.
