PROFILE
Those who know Lokelani McMichael attest that despite her highly-competitive athleticism, she's down to earth. "You wouldn't guess she's such a fierce competitor," says her Adventure Challenge co-host, Tom Holm. "But after she kicks your butt, she'll joke around and drink a smoothie with you. She's very grounded." Indeed, Lokelani gives her spare time to P.A.T.H., a local Hawaiian charity and advocacy group promoting bike safety and the maintenance of roads and trails for bicyclists.
It sounds a bit odd to say someone has "talent" for a triathlon, but Lokelani obviously has all the right traits: dedication, strength, stamina, and focus. She's also demonstrated that she's quite photogenic; in modeling shoots, Lokelani displays an ease in front of the camera and her good-natured personality has little trouble shining through on TV.
Combining the looks of a supermodel and the physique of a superhero, Lokelani McMichael is definitely sexy. If you need more proof than what your eyes can see, keep in mind she's been profiled in FHM and was voted one of ESPN's sexiest athletes. She was even featured in a National Geographic story on the history of the swimsuit.
Even though Lokelani may have potential flaws -- she admits to puking "lots" during the race, saying that all sorts of bodily functions go haywire under the stress -- we think if she has the stamina to race for hours, she's got more than enough energy to do certain other things for hours too.
The long dark hair, brown eyes and well-defined features of Lokelani McMichael would have made her model material no matter what. But a decade of triathlon training has put her 5'5" frame into peak condition. While we think a fit form is inherently beautiful, Lokelani herself points out that some might disagree, "I've been told my muscles are too big for fashion magazines."
But Lokelani's grueling physical regimen also has its downsides. For example, she's been hit by a car while training on her bicycle, and has taken a number of other nasty tumbles, which have given her scars. When you add that to the risk of shark attacks and jellyfish stings while swimming, there's always the possibility that Lokelani will be a little worse for wear.
